Toshiba and Samsung both entered the netbook market late in the game. Yet, when the company finally released the new NB100-128 last year, it wasn’t all that it was cracked up to be. Is the new Toshiba NB100-128 the same way? Is it even worth taking a glance at compared with the rest of the netbooks out on the market? Here are some of the specifications for the Toshiba NB100-128 that you may love and/or hate.
First, it’s a compact netbook weighing in at just 1.1 kilograms with a slim 225 millimeters in width. That makes it easy to slip into a small luggage. Despite its quality look, it doesn’t have the sleek look that comes with the Asus Eee PC S101 netbook or the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook.
Due to the narrow design of the keyboard, you’re practically forced to tap at the keys rather than type, as you should. The keys of the NB100-128 are small so you are unable to type normally. Any user with big hands will struggle to use this netbook.
In review models, Toshiba initially installed the netbooks with a three-cell battery. Since then, Toshiba changed it to a six-cell battery that allows you 253 minutes of mobile time. The drawback: the battery is large and tends to stick out from the chassis’ rear end.
Like the some of the models by Dell and MSI Wind U90, the Toshiba as an 8.9-inch screen… so far being the smallest screen size on the market. Its image quality is superb thanks in part to the glossy Super-TFT coating. However, if you plan to work for long periods of time, then you’ll want a 10.2-inch netbook.
One surefire aspect of the Toshiba NB100-128 that’s quite different from its competitors is the software suite that’s installed. For instance, the program comes with Microsoft Works, the basic office tool. It also comes with McAfee Internet Security Suite, a program that will protect you, as you are online.
The biggest plus and strength about the Toshiba NB100-128 is the storage space you get. The netbook comes with a 128-gigabyte hard drive, which allows you to store copious amounts of files onto it. You also have the luxury of a three-in-one card reader that supports common Flash storage formats.
There’s another drawback to the Toshiba netbook compared to other netbooks. It doesn’t have the performance to meet the standards it needs to run even office programs smoothly. While the graphics power is fine, everything else runs a bit slow.
Connection to the Internet is limited. While it does have Wi-Fi and a 10/100 Ethernet card to give you access, there’s just a small catch. There’s no Bluetooth for those wireless connections.
Keep in mind that the good comes with the bad in the Toshiba NB100-128. You may have great storage space, a long battery life and screen quality that’s all its own; yet only you will determine if that’s enough to pay the money you do for this Toshiba netbook.
