When you look at the Samsung NC10, there’s not much that makes it stand out…at least in design format. In fact, it’s just a regular 10.2 netbook that fits among the Asus Eee PC 1000 and MSI Wind. Actually, this isn’t at all a horrible idea. Samsung creators looked at what has worked for other electronic makers and created their own version.
What you got is Samsung’s best Netbook to date. The netbook design is crisp, solid and comes in three different colors: blue, black and white.
Details Review of Samsung NC10 Design and Features
Samsung’s white plastic casing with silver-edged trim and hinges gives this laptop an elegant look. However, there is a possible design flaw in the hinges. Its hinges could weaken over time separating the screen from the rest of the laptop. It’s important to remember that the screen should not be opened at any more than a 45-degree angle. If it’s forced beyond that, it’s highly possible it could snap.
The battery of the Samsung NC10 weighs in at 1.3 kilograms and measures at 260 x 170 x 30 mm when checked at its midpoint. A slight drawback is that the laptop’s battery is out further on the bottom. An annoying aspect to this is that the machine, when placed on the user’s knee, can feel heavier in the back than it is in the front because of the difference in weight.
When you look at the specifications of the Samsung NC10, you’ll see that it is a Netbook. It has the Intel Atom N270 processor along with 1,024 megabtyes of memory. The large 160-gigabyte hard drive is partitioned to make two equal hard drives.
The Samsung NC10 comes installed with Windows XP, which loads under 30 seconds with no known problems. The performance on the Samsung NC10 is satisfactory and can run any task including basic office tasks effortlessness.
An important note about the Samsung NC10: this is not the computer to use as a primary machine. Instead, it should be used when you need it away from home or has a second machine in the home. Nothing too complex should be placed on this computer so basic word processing and Internet surfing is fine.
Many computer and laptop manufacturers load the basic data of Windows onto netbooks. However, Samsung has given its users some extra measures by added in a vast array of software applications including but not limited to: Recovery Solution III and Samsung Battery Manager.
The very first time you start up Samsung NC10, you will have to do a backup image so you can set up extra user profiles if you so choose. It’s simple to set up the wireless connection so getting on the Internet is a snap.
Samsung manufacturers have installed McAfee Internet Security for users to use. This is usually not seen on other Netbooks and may or may not sway you to purchase the Samsung NC10. However, if you plan to go online with the machine, you’ll certainly want some kind of antivirus protection.
If you are looking for a netbook that exceeds in the area of keyboards and screens, you don’t have to look very far. The Samsung NC10 has a screen size of 10.2 inches with the usual 1,024 by 600 pixel resolution.

I use my Samsung NC10 for traveling, and for that application it is ideal. I’ve installed Microsoft Streets & Trips along with a blue tooth MKT2 GPS receiver and it is great as a GPS device. In addition, I’ve installed Adobe Photo shop CS2 to edit my photos as I travel (I upgraded my memory to 2GB) and this also works pretty well. In addition I’m using Open Office (just the writer and spread sheet) and have had no problems so far. So you see that it can be a little more than just an e-mail and web browser client.
